Why Indian Women love Salwar Kameez Over Sarees in 2019

In India, saree was the most popular wear, even till a decade back. Saree has dominated the daily clothing section of women predominantly in the past few centuries. However, even though saree has enjoyed immense popularity, but things are slowly changing. Women these days are preferring salwar kameez over sarees as daily wear. Even during occasions and festivities in 2019, salwar kameez is slowly beginning to get the upper hand.

Not much is known about the ancient clothing of women in the pre-historic era in India. However, one thing certainly is for sure that in ancient times, both men and women tied unstitched clothes in the fashion of pants. Women wore upper cloth as well to cover their bosom.

As the days went by, the fashion of women changed. The scenario altered rapidly with the emergence of saree. The elegance and chicness that saree offered were not seen or felt by women till then. This attire became an instant favorite of women.

In the mast era, women were happy with the role of a homemaker. It is because of that; she did not realize that saree was essentially inconvenient. The few women who had an opinion on saree were made to be quiet as saree, and sobriety became synonymous.

However, in the past decade, more and more women are assuming the role of office goer. Women are no longer happy with their role as homemakers. Hence, saree, with all its inconvenience, is less preferred as daily wear for women. In place of saree, women prefer the salwar kameez.

Advantages of Salwar Over Saree

There are many reasons why women prefer wearing salwar kameez over sarees today. Here are a few reasons we have thought to be the most important and are listing down:

Advantage of Time

In 2019, time is precious. Time means money. And saree as daily wear is an investment of time that women do not like doing any longer. With a salwar kameez, it is not the case. You can be ready to head for office in less than two minutes.

Ease of Wearing

No matter how well you drape a saree, you will always have to adjust it here and there throughout the day. Some fabrics keep slipping, and so you need to keep tugging it. Also, many women like wearing saree with a conventional petticoat that has a drawstring. These strings keep getting loose as time passes and needs to be readjusted.

You will not have much of this trouble with salwar kameez. Although traditional salwar came with a drawstring. Now salwars have elastic and hooks on them, which solves the problem of drawstrings.

Salwar Kameez is More Convenient

Saree can be tough to handle. The pleats, drapes, and fall of the saree can create problems sometimes. Especially in winter, saree can be susceptible to static cling that can pose a problem in walking. In summers, the petticoat and saree can stick to the legs and make it tough to move. With salwar kameez, especially the churidar, this problem is resolved. You can walk around freely and regularly go about your business without having to worry about any cling.

Salwar Kameez is More Versatile

The salwar kameez as wear is more versatile. You get many varieties in this ensemble as compared to a saree. Also, you can style the salwar kameez in a better manner and according to your needs. But when it comes to sarees, the choices are somewhat limited.

Conclusion

Sarees may have been the ruling queen ethnic fashion, but the trend is fading now. As years are passing, we are witnessing more trends in the domain of salwar Kameez, and many women prefer salwar kameez over saree. Salwars are immensely popular with women in 2019 for their versatility, ease, and comfort factors, and in the coming years, the salwar trend is sure to get many more women following it.
